How many cat breeds do you know? The first that come to my mind are Persian, Siamese, British Shorthair, and Maine Coon, but this is where it usually stops, simply because there are not as many cat breeds as there are dog breeds.
Somehow, the biggest secret of the cat food industry has spread out. Cats should not eat grain! It was kept secret for decades, to sell ‘complete and balanced’ cat food, which contains grain, grain, grain, a small amount of meat, and a ton of flavor enchanters, to make your cat believe it’s edible. Today, instead of trying to deflate the truth, pet food industry have chosen to respond. They now put large ‘GRAIN FREE’ labels on packages, to appeal people who now know. Unfortunately, in most cases, that label is a big, fat lie!
There are several hundred dog breeds, and only less than a hundred different cat breeds. But it’s not only about the count. What we see in dogs is the high diversity between different breeds. We have large, giant and small dogs. We have long legged dogs, we have flat faced dogs and heck, we even have dogs who do not even look like ones in the first place.
In cats, largest differences appear to be some having folded ears and some having no tail. But they all look like cats. It may lead to a question – why? How come we have so many dog breeds, and so few cat breeds? Is it fair?
