Think Like a Cat, by Pam Johnson-Bennett, SE 2011
This is, probably, the best book in a category “everything you need to know about cats”. It covers almost any topic and is written by a long term, certified feline behavior consultant, Pam Johnson-Bennett.
It’s an extremely good read for people new to cat world, but definitely, some experienced cat owners will also find useful information in almost any cat related topic.
The book is, general, and does not dive into unnecessary depth, however, that’s what other, more specific books by the same author are for. You can find them here.
Natural Nutrition for Cats: The Path to Purr-fect Health, by Kymythy Schultze, 2008
This book, by a human and animal nutrition expert, Kymythy Schultze, is the best starter for people who suspect, but have no proof, that the commercial diet they feed to their cats, may be hurting their pet.
As well as several home made recipes developed by the author, this book also takes us through the journey of the good and the bad sides of different types of commercial cat foods.
P.S. read our article: What are benefits of ditching the dry food, as well.
The Complete Guide to Holistic Cat Care: An Illustrated Handbook, by Celeste Yarnall and Jean Hofve, 2009
Have you ever heard about holistic health care. The main concept behind the holistic care is that you have to treat the whole body, instead of certain diseases or symptoms. It works well in human medicine (we have seen results ourselves) and now, by help of this book, you can understand how it applies to your house cat, as well.
The book by professional cat breeder, Dr. Celeste Yarnall and and a holistic veterinarian, Dr. Jean Hofve, will guide you trough the basics of holistic cat care, and is a great starting book for anyone who want to understand what it is about.
Book covers topics as, nutrition and health connection, benefits of enriching your cat’s lifestyle, aroma therapies and homeopathic medicine, as well as healing of touch, auras and chakras. So, no matter, if you, or do not believe in mysticism, this book is here to ensure you – holistic care is not a myth, it has strong foundation in scientific evidence.
Cat Daddy: What the World’s Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean, by Jackson Galaxy, 2012
While this book is an autobiography of an author centered around his foster care cat, Benny, it has well integrated cat care and training tips, but the most important, it teaches you to view your cat’s life, as well as your own, from a different perspective.
In our opinion, this book has a potential to change the light you see your cat in.
More to come?
We do read cat books constantly, it’s our passion, so this list is sure to grow longer. However, sure as hell, we do not recommend you books, we don’t think deserve being recommended. There are many, many great cat books written, however, this section is reserved for excellent books only.
